Overweight and obesity rank fifth among the leading risks for global deaths, according to the World Health Organizations, with at least 2.8 million adults dying each year from this pandemic.

In the Philippines, a 2011 survey by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) showed that almost 25% of Filipino adults are overweight, and about 6% of those are obese. This is creating a nation of heavyweights with high risk disease factors – such as respiratory and heart problems, liver and gall bladder diseases, type 2 diabetes, cancer – that may lead to death. The prevalence of overweight Filipinos is expected to increase significantly, with 24% more overweight males and 44% more overweight females expected by 2015.

Roche and Xenical have partnered with the Philippine Association for the Study of Overweight and Obesity (PASOO) to launch a campaign to help you rock your body to a better you. The campaign, dubbed “Rock The Fat Away”, addresses the serious problems of overweight and obesity, including safe and unsafe methods of weight loss. This edgy campaign reminds us that the key to achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight requires a holistic approach that includes a healthy diet, regular physical activity, and taking care of all aspects of our well-being.

Rock The Fat Away is being launched to the public today at the Glorietta Activiy Center (Palm Drive) through a Health Passport Journey that shows the way to rock healthier, better lives, with event partners Chris Sports, Beauty Bar, Lightwater, Vibram Fivefingers, Yello Halo Guilt-Free Kitchen, Shinagawa Lasik & Aesthetics, and support from Pipino Vegetarian Food by Pino.
