Last August 17, 2011, LG has launched the new 3D TV in Metro Manila and an expert says that watching TV does not degrade the eyes.

“Although many studies prove that excessive TV watching does not degrade the eyes, it can cause eye strain,” said Richard Kho, Neuro-opthalmologist at the American Eye Center and President of the National Organization of Neuro-opthalmologies in the Philippines.

“As a medical practitioner of over 12 years and educator in the ophthalmic field at the University of the Philippines, I can say that wile many studies prove that watching excessive TV and/or staring at the computer monitor for prolonged periods do not permanently degrade the eyes, it can cause eye strain. As an eye doctor, I would still recommend regular “breaks” from the TV or computer screen to rest the eyes,” says Richard Kho.

Common symptoms of chronic eye strain are dizziness, nausea and fatigue, not to mention drying, itching, and redness of the eyes. “These symptoms can definitely disrupt everyday activities if steps are not taken to care for one’s eyes,” says Dr. Kho.

He mentioned also that 3D viewing with active shutter glasses can understandably tire out the eyes, even cause dizziness for some people because of the effect o the constant movement and irregular depths produced by conventional 3D TV glasses.

Taking into consideration customers and doctors’ concerns on eye strain, LG Electronics has provided breakthrough technology to allow customers a more comfortable viewing experience. Unlike conventional 3D TV, LG Cinema 3D TV, makes use of Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology, providing 3D images that are certified “flicker-free” by European quality assurance agencies TUV and Intertek. This technology virtually eliminates dizziness and cross talk when watching 3D movies at home, allowing you to watch 3D movies comfortably.

According to LG, most of the 3Dmovies take about 1.5 to 2 hours of our viewing time. Wouldn’t it be comfortable for the eyes if the 3D glasses being used were lightweight, flexible and easy-to-wear? LG Cinema 3D TV’s glasses weigh only 16 grams, almost half the weight of conventional 3D glasses. LG Cinema 3D TV glasses are also battery-free, which eliminates the risk of electromagnetic waves. You don’t even have to worry about recharging the LG 3D glasses for fear that it will run out of battery during the most exciting parts of the movie. These key benefits were underscored at the recent National Association of Broadcasters (NAB)Show in Las Vegas when Avatar director James Cameron predicted that cheaper, lightweight  polarized glasses would need to become the industry standard for 3D TVs to become truly embraced by consumers.

Forget the eye strain and get ready for the finest, most cinematic 3D entertainment you’ve ever experienced in the comfort of your home. LG Cinema 3D TV. The new standard in 3-dimensional excellence.
