Learning in the New Normal through the Eyes of Children

PLDT Homeโ€™s new ad shows how families learn and rediscover what matters.

Parents know this: we thought we knew what it meant to be academically responsible for our school-age children. This involves regularly coordinating with childrenโ€™s teachers in school, providing financial support for their academic requirements, and making sure they participate in extra-curricular activities. This was a system a lot of parents have become attuned to until the COVID-19 pandemic happened.

Since the imposed community quarantine, life at home drastically changed. With the opening of a new school year, parents grapple for ideas on how to systemically operate their households while their children stay at home. As schools send out engaging virtual assignments to students, parents scramble on figuring out how to balance their household chores along with learning how to manage their childrenโ€™s home-school education. And all these activities entailed embracing a new perspective on active parenting.

While parenting could feel like a thankless job, we get immeasurable fulfillment when we see our children accomplish their dreams in life. But do we really know our childrenโ€™s true aspirations?

The new normal is a pivotal moment for children at home. How parents respond to the changes in their household will greatly affect their childrenโ€™s lives forever. The prolonged home quarantine allowed parents and children to bond together, get to know more about each other, be involved in one anotherโ€™s activities, and rediscover their relationship as they spend more time at home.

PLDT Homeโ€™s latest ad proves that childrenโ€™s dreams are developed and built at home. In the video, weโ€™ll see a mom preparing snacks for her child whoโ€™s home-schooling. Upon approaching her daughterโ€™s room, the mom overheard the kid discussing her aspirations to her teacher through an online class set-up. And the camera pans towards the different household chores and responsibilities that the daughter observed from her parents. In the end, the child reveals her real ambition in life โ€“ to be like her parents & to love just like how her parents love her at home.

As we navigate this new way of life, we learn how to live under new patterns, build new habits, and create new happy memories with our loved ones. Gone were the โ€œprogrammedโ€ parenting of the past as we welcome a new โ€œconnectedโ€ relationship. In this new normal, we rediscover what really matters โ€“ our family and home.
