Philippine Ambassador to Spain Philippe Jones Lhuillier assumes chairmanship for ASEAN Committee in Spain

Philippine Ambassador to Spain, Philippe Jones Lhuillier has assumed the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee in Madrid (ACM), the chairmanship was formally turned over to the Ambassador during a ceremony held recently at the Philippine Embassy in Madrid.

The turnover ceremony marks the start of the six-month chairmanship of the Philippines. During his acceptance remarks, Ambassador Lhuillier expressed his aim of elevating the engagement between ASEAN and Spain through promoting greater awareness and cultural understanding of the ASEAN region among Spanish people and through strengthening the economic ties between Spain and the ASEAN.

“I hope that we are able to forge stronger ties with each other as we tread through pandemic-stricken times and function under a new normal. Let us all work together in elevating the ASEAN through greater awareness and greater cultural understanding and appreciation among nations.” added Ambassador Philippe Jones Lhuillier.

Ambassador Lhuillier also asked for support and cooperation from his counterparts in fulfilling the said goal.

This is the first face-to-face meeting that was done by the ASEAN Committee due to the improving health conditions in Spain.

The ACM is composed of all ambassadors of ASEAN countries with embassies in Madrid, namely, the ambassadors of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam.
