22nd Development Policy Research Month Kick-off Forum and Press Conference

The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) will hold its kick-off event for the 22nd
Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) celebration on September 5, 2024, from 9:30 AM to
12:00 PM at Novotel Manila Araneta City, Cubao, Quezon City.

The DPRM is a month-long nationwide celebration led by PIDS every September, in accordance with
Malacañang Proclamation 247. It aims to promote the pivotal role of policy research in evidence
based decision-making and effective policymaking.

This year’s theme is “Securing a Future for All by Growing a Resilient Middle Class”, or in Filipino,
“Pagtiyak ng Kinabukasan sa Lahat sa Pamamagitan ng Pagtatag ng Malakas na Middle Class”. It is
grounded on the Philippines’ AmBisyon Natin 2040, which envisions “a prosperous middle-class
society where no one is poor”, emphasizing the middle class’ quality of life and their role in promoting
the country’s development.

This kick-off forum and press conference aims to engage our media partners in raising public
awareness of the DPRM, the significance of policy research, and the major activities lined up this year.
It also emphasizes the importance of collaboration among various sectors to seize opportunities to
expand and strengthen the middle class amid global and local challenges.

Speakers will include senior researchers from PIDS, along with distinguished leaders from government,
academe, private sector, and civil society. They will share invaluable insights on the multi-pronged
strategies needed to provide opportunities for expansion and new wealth creation, which can
transform the middle class into a more resilient driver of social good.
